I am working on an altered book that is just for me. Other than an 'experimenting' book I haven't created an altered book that was just personal, just for me. This one is about my daughter since she is my pride and joy and the title of the book was perfect. I originally started a book for her but it ended up being more of a practice/experiment book instead. So this one is 'really' just for her. I have two spreads completed and one currently in progress.

I have recently heard of a university that has a call for art for altered books and I am wondering if I might/could/should submit this book. My worry is what if it gets lost/damaged or something while it is in the show.

An altered book is such a labor of love and I just don't know how I feel about letting it go.

Anyone submitted a book to something like this before? Was it worth it to have your art viewed/seen by young artists?

After my current spread dries I will take some photos and post them so you all can see them and perhaps give your thoughts on submitting this piece.

I uploaded photos of the first 3 spreads in the book. This is a rather small book at 8" high x 4.5" wide.

I am with you Christy. It would be just like letting my child go spend the night with people I hardly know. You want to trust people BUT...I would take pictures of every single page before I let it go that is IF I could let it go...

Christy, I've never submitted my altered books to be displayed like that. It's hard enough for me to send one out in an RR. ") What a lovely idea for an altered book! I keep journals for each of my daughters (3) and would like to do so for each grandchild (5), but just don't have the time......hmmmm there we go again with that "time management" thingie! ") I have made each grandchild their own photo album with lots of artwork in it from me......but will need to do that again next year.....it's been a few yrs since the last one and I now have another grandchild....Jacob...born at 28wks at 2.7lbs....now 17mos old and 33lbs! So where do you stop? you don't....."). Post pics for us.......now I'm going to be scouring those old book store shelves for just the right titles for my girls and try to do an altered book for each of them! Great inspiration.....
