Hey Val,
It's nice seeing a photo of you. Funny...all this time I pictured you as having dark curley hair!! Love the reddish tint.

Way lots in common, Val! I lived in Bailey. Half of Julee's family is from Bailey, too. I used to go through or into Evergreen from Conifer all the time.

I got my 44" 8-harness Gilmore for free! I was the state rep for the Handweavers Guild of America for a few years and you wouldn't believe the number of looms I was just given! One gal gave me a huge room full of yarn and it overfilled my ex's pickup truck. I was selling that yarn at bargain prices for two years and what I made on it enabled me to go to probably 3 conferences. Once, we were given three big looms, a huge warping mill, and a bunch of other stuff when a YMCA decided to get rid of their weaving stuff. it was crazy but fun.

I haven't woven anything in ages and ages unless you count the way I wove the threads through the back of the book I was sewing last night! I love winter and hate summer so I need to go back to Colorado. But where I lived (in Burland Ranchettes on top of Crow Hill) was considered the banana belt of the mountains because of the mild weather. It was nice most of the time except when you're hoping for rain or snow to put out a forest fire!

Bet that was a fun swap! So.....wanna write up a blog post or add it to the forum/ artsy about how you did the background & finished piece? If so, you can add the photo & make sure your name/ contact info is on there too. If you have time.... ;-)

Hey Val, welcome! I see that we have something in common: fibers. I was a spinner, weaver, dyer, basket-maker, and lace-maker for many years. I have seven spinning wheels and two big looms, mostly in storage with the other stuff that won't fit in our little house here. I've always done embroidery too and now am planning to play with fabric more with my new sewing machine. Anyway, it's terrific to have you here with us. ;-))

Profile Information

About Me:
Happily married (ten years in August!) with two daughters - one is 9 and the other is 30! Two little blond granddaughters, ages 3 and 5. We have two cats, Oreo and Yoda. We live in northern Calif. a couple hours north of Sacramento. I work for the Dept. of Education as a secretary.
Where I'm from:
Northern California
About my Art:
I've always been involved in fiber arts in some way, grew up with crochet, embroidery, cross stitch. Eventually learned to weave, which I love. Making a piece of fabric is a high in itself! I like dyeing my own fabric too. A few years ago, I got involved in Yahoo groups for altered books, ATCs and more. Now enjoy a wider range of paper arts.
Where am I going?
I'm a wannabe, struggling along with no formal training, but when something turns out right, it feels good! I've been lucky enough to have some of my pieces featured on various Yahoo home pages, so that is a bit of affirmation that I can do this!
