Midlife Crisis...i haz one

Amazing thing, time. Amazing how quickly things can change and also how, when you make a tough decision, a really tough one, how things just seem to then fall into place.

Push has come to shove in my life. I've known this was going to happen, I've tried very hard not to let it happen, but guess what? It happened. So, on Thursday, I had to make what I thought at the time, was a very hard and depressing decision...and that is, to sell my house. I spent the day on the "unhappy couch" under an afgh… Continue

Focus. I needz sum.

Okay, so I spend too much time looking at lolcats, but I'm still struggling with the issue of focus. I love the jewelry I've been knotting and have way more designs floating in my head and on paper than I can complete in a year or 7, but there's so much more I want to do.

Like playing with fabric, and fabric and beads, and fabric, beads and ribbon. And digital work, playing with brushes and filters and my photographs. OH and I have more photographs to take for my cemetary documentation project… Continue

I hate to jinx myself...

...but yesterday was a really great day. Maybe I ought to knock on wood or something. We've finally had a break in the weather. I'm in the area in the Midwest that you've been hearing about; my little town in Iowa has been mostly under water for over a week now. We're situated on the Cedar River and it's overflowed it's banks by more than ever before in recorded history.

Even though I live on the second highest hill in town, my neighborhood was affected too. We were stranded up here by the dry… Continue

U is for Unhappy or my brain needs a vacation

Yesterday I had an okay day really. I continued with my knotting projects, completed 6 pieces (one for me), scanned them and started a 7th piece, also for me. Then last night, I was overwhelmed by a wave of unhappy out of nowhere; it literally made me shake my head. This was an odd experience.

I didn't want to go to sleep in the same old bed, wake up in the same old bed, make the same old coffee, read the same old mail/email, do the same old things I've been doing everyday since...well,for a lo… Continue

Necessity is the mother of re-invention

It's little wonder that one of my first tattoos was the phoenix. My personal mythology is filled with firey deaths and rebirths. Careers, relationships, jobs, life's work...all subject to change. I'm doing it again and for once, it's not exciting. It's filled with anxiety, panic, uncertainty and makes me simply want to curl up on the couch and rock.

I'm bound to inaction and now, more than ever, I need to move, act, defy, create. Recreate me...who I am, what I do, how I move through my world.… Continue

Hi Sandy, thanks for the invite. I am a paperdoll collector and friend of Sylvia K.'s. I live in Honolulu and am a retired British and Am. Lit instructor.
Now I do interior design and paper art.
I will get some photos on line soon.

Thanks for the comment and welcome.
I just got back from a two week trip to Seattle and a cruise to Alaska. I have to upload photos and do some scrapbooking of pages about the trip soon. While on the cruise I took about five computer classes that Microsoft gave on Windows Live pages and Windows Live movies. I have to try to learn it at better now at home on our computers. It is good to be home where it is warmer. Dee

Hi Sandi, I'm just learning the ins and outs of BookArtz, so pardon my slow reply. Thank you so much for your very nice compliment. I'm off for a little beach time beginning in just a few hours, but look forward to connecting with this group of like minded artisans.

Hey, Sandi, you're the first person I know that's seen it. I bought that stamp set from Cherry Pie just before Jo Crabtree hosted our "Fairy Name" chunky book last year. Those babies are so cute, but I never use them. So, when I saw the theme for RSM, Ithought, why not? That paper from Pocket Full of Posies was so perfect for them. Thanks again.

Dear Sandi,
I appreciate the warm welcome and it is great to meet so many other artists who enjoy mixed media. I have loved collage and transfers for many years. Now, some of my collage work is digital which gives me even more choices, but still working with real papers is the most satisfying. I'm sure this group will be very inspirational.

On Picasa or webshots, can you get the URL of a picture? I don't think Flickr appreciates the linking. I'll take a peek at my picasa (rarely use it I guess) & see.
