I am in desparate need of a camera......mine was stolen last fall and this past month my scanner bit the dust. I can't believe how much I miss both. Since I'm always swapping art and sending in submissions, I like to photograph my work and post it to my Flickr site and to my groups. Also, being a "Nana" without a camera is like being a one-armed bandit without arms! I had a Kodak DX4530, but am looking to upgrade. I received $250 in gift cards for my b'day this month and could go a little higher on the price. I know Kodak has a 615 and some stores are having a special that you get the printer base with it plus a free memory stick. Just wondering what the rest of you prefer.............................

I bought a new camera in January. I got a Canon Powershot S5 IS. I love it! It's a little "much" camera for me, I could have gone with the next model down & been happy- but I figure I'll grow into it. It takes awesome pictures, the photographer could use a little help though!

we have the Casio Exilim and it works fine for me. makes movies so that i can capture the littlest Herrmann doing all of that cute stuff she does plus it makes pretty good stills. it has enough bells and whistles without being over the top and its nice and compact... oh and i haven't had any battery problems which my mom seems to have had a lot of with some of her digitals. mine is about 2 years old so you KNOW its been out of date for about 20 months! ;)

my real suggestion is to do plenty of consumer reports type research BEFORE you go to the stores. oh and have fun!

Thanks Stace and Jul.............yeah, I'm getting ready to do some consumer reports right now. I'll be in the big city (Tulsa......drs appt) tomorrow and would like to browse around, but know a little something, too, before I get there. Hubby has always had Minolta SLRs with lots of lenses, etc........
and I used to use them quite a bit, but I'm loving the upload features on the digitals. Jul, I had tons of problems with the batteries on a Sony I had a few years ago......hated their photo shop..........I've really great success with the Kodak batteries and love their EasyShare program....I can do so much more with it than with the Sony photo share. Thanks you gals for your input. Also, thanks for the b'day wishes..........it was a great
b'day..........had dinner with lots of family at a great restaurant/bar in Tulsa........my
very favorite uncle....my dad's only remaining bro....his wife, my girls, their boyfriends,
their kids, my brothers, wives and kids and a cousin............lots of good food and
some very tastey margaritas. ")

I now have a camera in my hands! I spent a few days online looking at cameras and prices and reading consumer reports. I finally decided to go with the Kodak Z812 IS................I've loaded all the info into the computer.....a lot of it just updated an earlier version I had of KodakEasyShare photo shop, which I love.......probably because it's easy to use! LOL I'm not the saaviest computer operator..........just in case you hadn't noticed...........LOL I hoping to get outside today and try it out............babysitting gkids, so will probably get some shots of them............

Sharon, you will love the Kodak Z812 IS. I'm loving mine. The German-made lens is great. The camera itself is versatile and easy to use. I do have the dock to go with it though I don't use so much. I prefer instead to print on my HP Photosmart C5180 or on my HP Photosmart 7260. I also have the older and smaller Kodak DX6440. It, too, has the German lens and though it is only 4 mega pixels, it fits perfectly into my shoulder bag. I carry it with me at all times. I've gotten some really good pictures with it, too.

I've used a couple of Kodak Easy-Share cameras and love the charging dock you can get for them. Much less worry about batteries all the time. We also bought our 9-yo and Nikon Coolpix for Christmas (under $200) and it takes super good pictures - 7 megapixels, I think it is. For something that feels more like the typical 35mm SLR camera, we also have a Fuji that takes great pictures. It was about $400. There are definitely a lot of options out there! Good luck.

Thanks, Val.........this one is 8.1 megapixels and 12X zoom........which comes in great because my 11 yo and 7yo play baseball...........oldest is a pitcher and I got some really neat shots of him
pitching Sunday.....even got the ball midway............").....I really like the way this one feels like the SLRs that my dh has........he hasn't got his out in a while, but has really been interested in mine. We have 10 acres that backs up to a river....house up at front of property.....little woodland between house and river and we like to walk down early in the morning........I got some pretty good fog shots early Sunday morning.....he started talking about getting his cameras out......")
