And if so, what do you listen to? For me, it depends on my mood & what I'm doing. Some days it's INXS & U2, others it's some old country and still others it's Aretha Franklin's greatest hits. Depends on my mood & what I'm doing. Painting- I can do with faster music, while some wire wrapping....needs to be classical piano. I know, weird huh?

So....what about you?

For me, music is essential, too. It's like an aural indicator that time is passing. When making stuff, I usually am listening to my mp3 player. I have some playlists set up but mostly I put the whole 20 gigs of music on random shuffle. I have a little bit of most everything - except I don't do country. From Buffett to Carolina Beach Music to Salsa and Latin music. Oh and lots of 80s stuff.

I sometimes listen to Radio Paradise while I'm working. I'm not familiar with Pandora, so I will check that out.

I do listen to music while I work both web stuff and art stuff. I listen to Pandora which offers free radio based on your taste. I have approximately 16 - 20 stations that I have created there. Some are soft (Colbie Calillat / Jack Johnson) and some are harder like (Alanis Morissette) and much more as I love most genres with the exception of rap and the newer heavy metal. Love the older stuff though.
The music changes based on a) my current emotional state b) the emotional state I want to be in. Usually it is 'b' as I feel music can affect you emotionally. It's like being told to smile when you talk on the phone and that smile will carry through in your voice. If you listen to music that makes you feel happy you are more likely to feel happy. But sometimes I am grumpy and then I want to hear music that is loud and maybe a little abnoxious LOL

When I'm doing housework or very physical work where I am standing and moving around, I like oldies...50's on up. I'm open to most types of music, but do find some country irritating, if I'm trying to focus. When I am writing, I enjoy background instrumentals like classical or primal world...you know drumming and such. I belly dance, so I like that music, a lot. When I am painting and creating, if I don't have the TV on (somehow it occupies my left brain, so my right brain can take over), I like classical or new age. Music that transports me outside of the confines of my studio...if that makes any sense.

Um...I also write and play music myself and some people tell me they like to listen to that while they create...which makes me feel very honored, of course. If you like folk music, there's a great place to listen to stuff you've never heard. Folk Alley has an open mic page where people like me can upload their own material. You can find mine at http://www.folkalley.com/openmic/artist.php?id=39 . The main site is http://www.folkalley.com/ . You can set up play lists of your favorites and I've found some really interesting stuff there, just FYI.
